Well, I've joined the world of Facebook. In that world is a group called the C-U Water Buffaloes, an offspring of our landlocked Buffalo Warriors. Seems this paddling herd has kayaks and canoes and travels the waterways of central Illinois. Several buffalo have tried to recruit me for the fleet, but . . . I ain't got no boat. We'll see.

Join the Buffalo Fleet? Duty Calls

Boat? Don't need no stinkin' boat! One of our fearless leaders has 7 of them, specifically for pre-boat owners like you. No excuses, you see.
Yes'm. I stand corrected. Sheesh.
If you go to freecycle.org and find your county, you can probably find a canoe or kayak. If not, post a wanted ad. I've seen many kayaks listed.
